tuna steak recipe Sesame Crust With Wasabi Streak
- Total Time: 30 minutes
- Yield: 4 servings 1x
- Diet: Healthy
Description
This recipe delivers impressive tuna steaks with a sesame crust and a vibrant wasabi streak, perfect for a healthy weeknight family dinner or a quick gourmet option for guests.
Ingredients
- 4 pieces fresh tuna steaks, 1-inch thick (6 oz each)
- 0.5 cup white and black sesame seeds
- 2 tbsp wasabi paste
- 0.25 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2–3 stalks green onions, thinly sliced
- Salt, to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare Tuna: Pat tuna steaks very dry with paper towels. Season each side lightly with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
- Make Wasabi Streak Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the wasabi paste, 1 tbsp of low-sodium soy sauce, and the rice vinegar until smooth. Set aside.
- Coat Tuna: Spread sesame seeds on a shallow plate. Gently press each tuna steak into the seeds, coating all sides evenly.
- Heat Skillet: Heat 2 tbsp of olive oil in a large, heavy-bottomed 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat until it shimmers.
- Sear Tuna: Carefully place tuna steaks into the hot skillet. Sear for 1.5-2 minutes per side for rare to medium-rare, or longer for desired doneness.
- Rest and Slice: Remove tuna from skillet and let rest for 2-3 minutes. Thinly slice the tuna against the grain.
- Serve: Arrange sliced tuna on plates and drizzle artfully with the wasabi streak sauce.
Notes
Use sushi-grade tuna for best rare results. For gluten-free, use tamari; for soy-free, use coconut aminos. For a milder sauce, reduce wasabi; for more kick, add sriracha. Pat tuna dry for searing. Ensure uniform thickness for faster cooking.
