Ingredients
- 500g (1.1lb) Lean Halal Ground Beef
- 150g (1 cup) Finely Diced Onion
- 2 Cloves Garlic, Minced
- 1 tsp (5ml) Smoked Paprika
- ยฝ tsp (2.5ml) Ground Cumin
- ยฝ tsp (2.5ml) Black Pepper
- 1 tsp (5ml) Salt
- 200g (7oz) Shredded Cheddar Cheese (Halal)
- 100g (3ยฝoz) Grated Monterey Jack Cheese (Halal)
- 150ml (2/3 cup) Heavy Cream
- 1 Chipotle Pepper in Adobo, Minced
- 1 tbsp (15ml) Adobo Sauce
- 1 tbsp (15ml) Olive Oil
- 30g (ยผ cup) Panko Breadcrumbs
- 1 tbsp (15ml) Melted Butter
- 2 tbsp (10g) Chopped Cilantro
Instructions
- Preheat & Prep: Preheat oven to 190ยฐC (375ยฐF) and grease a 23x23cm (9x9in) baking dish.
- Sautรฉ Aromatics: Sautรฉ onion in olive oil until softened, then add garlic and cook until fragrant.
- Brown Beef: Brown ground beef, breaking it up, and drain any excess fat.
- Season Beef: Stir in smoked paprika, cumin, salt, and pepper.
- Craft Sauce: Simmer heavy cream, chipotle pepper, and adobo sauce; whisk in cheddar and Monterey Jack until smooth.
- Assemble Layer 1: Spread half the beef in the dish, top with cheese sauce, and swirl.
- Assemble Layer 2: Layer remaining beef and sauce, swirl again.
- Top & Bake: Sprinkle with cheese and buttery panko breadcrumbs; bake for 20-25 minutes.
- Rest & Serve: Let rest for 5 minutes, garnish with cilantro, and serve hot.
