jumbo shrimp recipe
- Total Time: 30 minutes
- Yield: 4 servings 1x
- Diet: General
Description
This jumbo shrimp recipe delivers a savory, slightly spicy glaze with crispy garlic, transforming simple ingredients into a show-stopping meal. It’s perfect for busy weeknights, offering a delicious and hearty option that earns rave reviews.
Ingredients
- 500 g jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined (tails on)
- 45 g gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 30 ml tamari (alcohol-free)
- 15 g light brown sugar, packed
- 10 g fresh ginger, grated
- 4 cloves garlic (3 minced, 1 thinly sliced)
- 15 ml toasted sesame oil
- 45 ml neutral vegetable oil, divided
- 5 g white sesame seeds, toasted
- 2 medium scallions, thinly sliced
- 1 lime, cut into wedges
Instructions
- Prep Shrimp: Pat the jumbo shrimp very dry with paper towels to ensure a good sear, then set aside.
- Whisk Glaze Ingredients: Whisk together gochujang, tamari, brown sugar, minced ginger, 3 cloves minced garlic, and toasted sesame oil to create the glaze, then set aside.
- Prepare Crispy Garlic: Heat 30 ml (2 tablespoons) neutral oil in a small pan over medium-low heat until shimmering. Fry the thinly sliced garlic, stirring, until golden brown and crisp (about 3-5 minutes). Remove the garlic to drain on paper towels and reserve the oil.
- Sear the Shrimp: Heat 15 ml (1 tablespoon) neutral oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add the dried shrimp in a single layer and cook for 1-2 minutes per side until opaque, pink, and seared.
- Glaze the Shrimp: Reduce the heat to medium-low. Pour the prepared glaze over the shrimp and toss gently until they are evenly coated. Cook for 1-2 minutes, allowing the glaze to thicken and adhere to the shrimp.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove the shrimp from the heat to prevent overcooking. Arrange them on a serving plate and scatter with toasted sesame seeds, sliced scallions, and the crispy garlic. Serve immediately with fresh lime wedges.
Notes
Ensure shrimp are patted very dry to prevent steaming and achieve a good sear. Choosing low-sodium tamari helps control salt intake. Frozen jumbo shrimp work beautifully; just thaw fully and pat dry. Prepare all garnishes beforehand for a quicker finish.
