Description

A recipe for juicy turkey burgers that are stuffed with a creamy and savory filling of spicy feta cheese and sun-dried tomatoes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 680 g (1.5 lbs) 90/10 lean ground turkey
  • 60 g (0.5 cup) panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 80 g minced onion
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 0.5 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 120 g crumbled feta cheese
  • 60 g cream cheese, softened
  • 30 g chopped sun-dried tomatoes
  • 15 g fresh parsley, chopped
  • 2 g red pepper flakes
  • 15 mL (1 tbsp) olive oil
  • 4 burger buns

Instructions

  1. Sautรฉ Aromatics: Heat 1 teaspoon of olive oil in a small skillet over medium heat. Add the minced onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until translucent. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant, then remove from heat and let cool completely.
  2. Prepare Turkey Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, panko breadcrumbs, large egg, all dry seasonings (smoked paprika, oregano, salt, pepper), and the cooled onion-garlic mixture. Gently use your hands to mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  3. Create Feta Filling: In a separate small bowl, combine the crumbled feta cheese, softened cream cheese, chopped sun-dried tomatoes, chopped fresh parsley, and red pepper flakes. Mix until evenly distributed and creamy.
  4. Form and Fill Patties: Divide the turkey mixture into eight equal portions. Flatten each portion into a thin, approximately 10 cm (4-inch) diameter patty. Place about one tablespoon of the feta filling onto the center of four of the patties, leaving a border.
  5. Seal the Burgers: Place the remaining four plain turkey patties on top of the filled patties. Gently press around the edges to fully seal the filling inside. If needed, add a small dab of water to help seal the edges.
  6. Cook the Stuffed Burgers: Heat the remaining 2 teaspoons of olive oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Place the stuffed burgers in the skillet and cook for 6-8 minutes per side, or until the exterior is golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 74ยฐC (165ยฐF).
  7. Toast Buns and Serve: Lightly toast the burger buns. Place a cooked turkey burger on a toasted bun bottom, add desired toppings (like lettuce and tomato), and top with the bun lid.

Notes

Use 90/10 ground turkey for the best balance of moisture and flavor. Avoid overmixing the turkey mixture to prevent tough burgers. To create a stronger seal on the patties, wet your fingers with water before pressing the edges together.
