avocado spread recipe
- Total Time: 10 minutes
- Yield: 16 servings 1x
- Diet: Vegetarian
Description
This creamy avocado spread transforms simple meals with its vibrant color and a smoky kick, perfect for busy weeknights or entertaining.
Ingredients
- 3–4 medium ripe avocados (approx. 450–500 g total)
- 60 mL fresh lime juice, divided
- 5 g sea salt
- 30 g finely minced red onion
- 15 g fresh cilantro, chopped
- 8 g chipotle powder
- 5 g smoked paprika
- 15 mL agave nectar
- 15 mL extra virgin olive oil
Instructions
- Prepare Avocado Base: Halve the avocados, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a medium mixing bowl. Add 45 mL (3 tablespoons) of the fresh lime juice and the sea salt. Using a sturdy fork or potato masher, mash the avocado to your desired consistency.
- Add Fresh Aromatics: Add the finely minced red onion and the chopped fresh cilantro to the mashed avocado base. Gently fold these ingredients into the spread until they are evenly distributed.
- Create Chipotle-Lime Paste: In a separate small bowl, combine the chipotle powder, smoked paprika, agave nectar, the remaining 15 mL (1 tablespoon) of fresh lime juice, and the extra virgin olive oil. Stir thoroughly until a thick, smooth paste forms.
- Swirl and Serve: Spoon small dollops of the smoky chipotle-lime paste over the surface of the prepared avocado spread in the bowl. Using a table knife or skewer, gently pull through the paste to create distinct ribbons and streaks of color and flavor. Serve immediately.
Notes
To achieve a milder red onion flavor, soak the minced onion in cold water for 5 minutes before adding. To refresh the spread before serving and prevent browning, sprinkle the surface with an extra teaspoon of lime juice and give it a gentle fold.
